COBRA--Keeping Your Insurance After Your Job Ends

At the time I became eligible to participate in my employers group health plan, I decided to pass. Now I have been terminated from my job and would like to take advantage of COBRA, may I?

Unfortunately no. If an employee is not covered by his or her employer's group health plan at the time of the “qualifying event”—here, the termination, he or she is not entitled to elect COBRA continuation benefits.
