Operations Manager

Job Summary

Cancer Legal Care (CLC) is looking for an energetic and experienced leader to ensure our operational excellence. This is a new position, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape it. The successful candidate will develop, refine, and implement systems to ensure that CLC, as it continues to grow, meets the goals reflected in our budget, strategic plan, and program objectives from a strong operational base. This is a great opportunity for a person who wants to make a tremendous impact in cancer survivorship in Minnesota.

Position Information

  • Reports to the Executive Director

  • Classified as regular, non-exempt

  • Salary is $56,500-$60,000/annual, depending on experience, based on a 32-hour work week. There is some flexibility regarding hours for this position, but the starting expectation and need is within the general range of 32 hours per week.

  • CLC is a hybrid working organization. This position requires in-office work at least 2 days a week in our Oakdale office. Fully remote work is not available at this time.

Primary Job Duties

(1)  Day-to-Day Business and Financial Management

  • Oversee contracts with vendors, consultants, landlord, and insurers to maintain consistent operations

  • Review and evaluate current contracts and vendors, researching, recommending, coordinating, and implementing changes as needed

  • Coordinate IT needs and requirements with IT vendor, ensuring that needs are being met

  • Review, evaluate, maintain, and review all insurance policies

  • Work with Executive and Finance Committee in setting budget and financial priorities for the year

  • Work with Finance Manager to

    • manage CLC’s finances and fiscal health

    • ensure successful monthly close and financial reporting

    • ensure successful financial audit

  • Manage effective internal controls and processes for accounts receivable, accounts payable, and financial policies

(2)  Project Management

  • Manage the planning, implementation, and ongoing work for organization-wide undertakings

  • Ensure necessary communication and follow-up

(3)  Human Resources and Professional Development 

  • Conduct annual review of benefits to determine that our package is competitive and cost-effective for the organization.

  • Formalize and lead the process of ensuring yearly performance reviews and salary reviews for all staff and updating our data on benchmarking salaries.

  • Prepare payroll twice a month; work with payroll vendor

  • Oversee hiring processes, including recruitment, review of applications, interviews and selection, and onboarding of new employees.

  • Manage professional development budget; promote continuing education and professional development opportunities; organize staff trainings, retreats, and meetings as appropriate to build staff effectiveness and foster staff unity.

  • Yearly review of personnel policies and practices

Secondary Job Duties

  • Noticing gaps in the organization, taking initiative to implement policies and procedures

  • All other duties as assigned

The ideal Operations Manager will increase the capability and capacity of Cancer Legal Care to further its mission to engage the law to resolve the complex issues facing people and communities affected by cancer. Professional Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

  • College/Master’s degree in a relevant field, or demonstrably equivalent knowledge gained through alternative courses of study and life experience

  • Demonstrated empathy, communication skills, and ability to work well with others

  • Experience with the nonprofit sector desired, but not required
