Advocates on your care team.
Cancer Legal Care is a nonprofit law firm providing free legal advice and services to Minnesotans facing cancer.
We are here because almost all cancer patients at one time or another face issues outside of their medical treatment that cause stress and can lead to long term financial harm.
Doctors help with medical decisions. Cancer Legal Care is here to help with the many legal questions that come up during and after treatment.
We help people focus on their health.
Every year, nearly 30,000 new cases of cancer are diagnosed in Minnesota and 9,300 Minnesotans die from cancer. There are approximately 263,330 Minnesotans who are cancer survivors.
The financial toll that cancer takes on these individuals and their families is daunting, and has its own term: financial toxicity.
Financial toxicity is defined as "the detrimental effects of the excess financial strain caused by the diagnosis of cancer on the well-being of patients, their families, and society."
Many of these financial issues are tied to legal issues– keeping one's job, navigating Social Security disability benefits, dealing with medical debt, and insurance coverage denials. Many Minnesotans are unable to pay for a lawyer to help with these critical needs.
That is why Cancer Legal Care is here.
