Resources to help with getting food

n Minnesota, there are two of programs that can provide assistance with buying food--Food Support and the Minnesota Food Assistance Program.

Food Support or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

The Food Support (formerly Food Stamps) program helps low-income families with access to food and better nutrition. It is meant to supplement a family's food requirements. This is a federally funded program administered by the counties. Income and asset limits apply. The amount of monthly benefits are based on income and the number of people in the household.

Minnesota Food Assistance Program (MFAP)

The Minnesota Food Assistance Program provides food support to legal non-citizens, age 50 and older, who reside in Minnesota and are ineligible to participate in the Food Support program. Participants cannot also be receiving assistance from the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP). The benefits available under this program are the same as those available under the Food Support program.
