COBRA--Keeping Your Insurance After Your Job Ends

Does COBRA apply to life insurance benefits provided by an employer?

Under federal law, there is no COBRA right to continue employer sponsored group life insurance benefits.

Under Minnesota law, however, does provide the right to continue life insurance benefits for a period of 18 months after the qualifying event. Additionally, after the 18 month period, you have the right to convert your employer sponsored group life insurance benefits to another plan. Consequently, in Minnesota, if you are covered under a fully-insured plan or a government plan, you would be eligible for this additional benefit.
