Cancer Legal Care is a Charity Partner for the Medtronic Twin Cities 10 Mile taking place on Sunday, October 5th. Team members are raising money for Cancer Legal Care and will help to spread the word about our work so that more Minnesotans can benefit from our services. As we get closer to Race Day, we will be introducing you to some of our team members.
Team Cancer Legal Care Featured Runner: Laura Schmidt
1.) How long have you been running?
I started running more seriously in 2022 when I ran 62 miles in the month of May as part of a fundraiser for Stand Up To Cancer.
2.) What was your first race?
2023 North Shore – Tunnel 10K in Duluth.
3.) Why did you choose to join Team Cancer Legal Care?
My Mom died of terminal cancer in 2021. Since then, I have been finding ways to honor her -- running in races, fundraising, volunteering, etc.
I support Cancer Legal Care because they help cancer patients right here in our local community. From getting insurance claim denials overturned, or helping cancer patients with estate planning, financial issues, disability and education, it is clear that this organization is making a huge impact to those struggling with cancer right here in Minnesota. My Mom would be proud to support them, too!
4.) Do you have any fundraising tips?
Share your story and why you are passionate about the cause. If you want support from your community, you need to connect with them in a real and authentic way. After all -- we're on this Earth to love, help and support one another!
5.) Can you share a fundraising success story?
In May of 2022, I did a running fundraiser for Stand Up To Cancer in honor of my Mom. I ran 62 miles that month, and tracked it all on my social media. My goal was to raise $200, and I ended up raising almost $2000!
