Cancer Legal Care is a Charity Partner for the Medtronic Twin Cities 10 Mile taking place on Sunday, October 5th. Team members are raising money for Cancer Legal Care and will help to spread the word about our work so that more Minnesotans can benefit from our services. As we get closer to Race Day, we will be introducing you to some of our team members.
Team Cancer Legal Care Featured Runner: Marilee McGraw
1.) How long have you been running?
About 15 minutes. I kid. I started slow jogging…really slow…last summer. I’m not much faster now, but I can make it around Bde Maka Ska and Lake Harriet without stopping. Woo Hoo!
2.) What was your first race?
Fourth grade - 50 yard dash. Blue ribbon and everything. I haven’t been in a race since.
3.) Why did you choose to join Team Cancer Legal Care?
Cancer Legal Care is an amazing resource and Minnesota gem. The work of their talented team is vital and unique. There aren’t a lot, if any, organizations that provide similar services. They provide cancer patients, survivors, and families free legal care and support, which is transformational. If you have ever struggled to navigate health insurance, disability insurance, and the like - you can appreciate the work they do and the value they provide. Priceless and life changing. If I won the lotto, I would give them half.
4.) Do you have any fundraising tips?
Asking for money is tough.
I shared my TC Marathon / CLC page on Facebook. I have received many donations, which has been wonderful. Nothing better than getting an email alerting you of a donation. So fun! I’m so grateful to everyone that has donated.
5.) Can you share a fundraising success story?
The success was me figuring out how to post the link on FB. I haven’t done anything magical other than sharing the link on Facebook and telling friends they can still run / shuffle with me. I’ve been surprised that 3 people have decided to run themselves! There is still time, folks. No need to worry about a personal best - run, walk, shuffle, or dance your way across the finish line. If you would like to cheer from the sidelines - that is great, too!
