COBRA--Keeping Your Insurance After Your Job Ends

While grateful for it, the coverage under COBRA is much more expensive than I thought it would be. I carried the benefits for our family with my employer’s group health plan, but have since left my job to care for Jenny, my minor daughter, who has cancer.

Yes. There is no requirement that all of the people who were covered under the group health plan continue on during the entire COBRA period. However, a person choosing to do this would be wise to secure other coverage first for the other family members before letting go of COBRA coverage.
